10 Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

Hi readers! There are so many amazing books coming out next year so today I’ll be sharing with you the top 10 releases I’m most anticipating! There’s a mix of young adult & adult fiction here, with a few different genres. This is not an exhaustive list of every book I’m anticipating, just my top 10! You can check out my 2019 Releases Shelf on Goodreads if you’d like to see more of the 2019 releases I’m looking forward to reading.

Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

» Internment by Samira Ahmed

At the end of 2017 I read Samira Ahmed’s debut novel Love, Hate & Other Filters and really enjoyed it. Ahmed has a strong voice and I loved her writing in her debut novel, so I’m excited to see how she’s improved since then! Internment is set in a horrifying near-future US in which Muslim American citizens are forced into internment camps. Considering the current political climate of the US, this dystopia does not seem so far away to some people. I just know that Ahmed is going to have some very valuable and thought-provoking discussions through this novel, & I can tell it’s going to be a challenging but important read. Release date: March 19th

» The Military Wife by Laura Trentham

I was mostly drawn to this book because my partner is in the army and I know how helpful partners of those in the army can be to each other. The Military Wife follows Harper, a woman whose husband passed away 5 years ago. Seeing her best friend struggle with problems of her own after her SEAL husband is injured while deployed, Harper embarks on a mission to help not only her best friend but a network of other spouses as well. This sounds like a really hopeful, heartwarming read and I’m very excited to read it! Release date: February 5th

» Middlegame by Seanan McGuire

Earlier this year I listened to all of Seanan McGuire’s Wayward Children’s series on audio and absolutely adored it. Her writing is so eerie and beautiful and I loved her commentary on some social and political issues. I don’t know much about this upcoming release, but this line in the blurb absolutely sold me on this one: “Roger and Dodger aren’t exactly human, but they don’t realise it. They aren’t exactly gods, either. Not yet.” Does that not sound amazing?! If this is even half as good as what I’ve already read of McGuire, I know I’ll love this. Release date: May 7th

» The Wicked King by Holly Black

Y’all, I have jumped on the Holly Black hype train and I’m here to stay! I read The Cruel Prince last month and it is easily one of my fave books of the year. The Wicked King is its the sequel, and after the end of the first book I need this book asap. I’m so so so looking forward to reading this, and it’s one of the only books I’m allowing myself to break by book buying ban for. Release date: January 8th

» The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang

The first book in this series, The Poppy War, is one of the best fantasy books I’ve read, so of course I’m highly anticipating its sequel! Masterfully blending historical elements and Chinese mythology to create a fantastical story, this series is dark, gritty and complex, and I’m very excited to see where this story goes in this next instalment. Release date: August 6th

» The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty

This is yet another fantasy sequel I am so hyped for. I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of the first book in this series, The City of Brass, and it was one of my favourite books of 2017! This is a rich, imaginative, phenomenal ownvoices Muslim fantasy series with fantastic world-building, political intrigue and amazing character development. It’s been a while since I read the first book, but I just know that I’m going to absolutely adore this. Release date: January 8th

» Once Ghosted, Twice Shy by Alyssa Cole

I am so so so so hyped for this book. When I read A Princess in Theory back at the start of the year, I really liked Likotsi, so seeing that she gets her own novella makes me so happy! The romance genre is so saturated by cis, straight, white m/f stories & covers, so seeing a story with two black sapphic women is such a nice change. This is probably my #1 most anticipated romance book of the entire 2019 and I will probably read it as soon as it releases! Release date: January 8th

» Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an author who came onto my radar in late 2017 and I have made my way through her entire backlist throughout 2018. There is 0 surprise that this book is on my most anticipated list. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo was one of my favourite books of last year, and making my way through her backlist has proven to me what a talented writer TJR is. I’ve heard some mixed things about this one because it doesn’t live up to people’s expectations after Evelyn, but I’m reserving my judgement and expectations & going into this knowing that TJR will always have something I like! Release Date: March 5th

» The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai

Honestly I knew nothing about this book, apart from the fact it was written by Alisha Rai, before I added it to my tbr. I’ve read a few of Alisha Rai’s books this past year and she is definitely one of my favourite romance authors to date. She writes such inclusive, smart and sexy romances & I have no doubt this book will tick all my boxes. Also, can we talk about how damn cute that cover is?! I am so here for all the lovely romance covers like this coming out in 2019! Release date: July 2nd

» You Must Not Miss by Katrina Leno

I read Summer of Salt by Leno a few months ago & really loved her writing, so when I saw that this was releasing in 2019, I knew I had to add it straight to my tbr! All I really know about this is that it’s sure to be whimsical, make me feel lots of things and also follows an anti-heroine. Sign me up! Release date: April 23rd
